Established 1905
The first official move to have a school established in Toogoolawah was a letter written by Mr J H McConnel on 4th October 1904midnight to stoke up the fires to burn the stumps.. This followed a meeting called in August 1904 by Mr George Launder, the newly appointed station master. A building committee was formed and the parents had to find 1/5th of the cost of erecting the building. This was raised from dances and collections. Mr H P Somerset MLA lent his support. The school opened on 30th May 1905 with Miss Ann Scott as the first teacher. By 1907 the enrolment had increased so much that it was necessary for an assistant teacher to be appointed. By 1909 the enrolment had increased to 87. Approval was given for a teacher’s residence to be built and additions to the school. In 1926 Miss Katherine Coleman was the first pupil to be appointed as teacher to the school.
On 1st March 1928 Toogoolawah Rural School was opened. Students attended from Coominya, Esk, Harlin, Colinton, Moore and Linville to learn woodwork, metal work, saddlery, cookery and dressmaking. Some rode their horses, but most travelled by train. The enrolment was 120 in the domestic science section and 108 in the woodwork. the
One end of the oval was used as a horse paddock and often as many as 30 horses would be there. When there was no longer a need for a horse paddock the land reverted to a playing area and oval.
In May 1955 the Secondary Department was opened and the next year the first students sat for the Junior Public exam.
On 25th July 1956 Cooeeimbardi School had been moved in and attached to the school, to be used as an infant classroom. It escaped the fire. Miss Dorothea Kingsford was the infant teacher for about 20 years. , the school was almost completely destroyed by fire. All the old records were lost, as well as teaching aids and the entire library. The
Classes were taught in the UnitingChurch hall and the RSL Hall until the new school was completed to start the 1958 year.
The pre –school was built and opened in 1975.
In 1987 the school started as a complete secondary school. Year 11 classes were held at the Secondary Department while the new school was being built at Old Mt Beppo Road. Previously Toogoolawah students continuing to Years 11 & 12 had to go by bus to Kilcoy and Esk students to Lowood.
The school celebrated its Centenary in May 1905.
