Throughout the year as we meet and hear what is happening at the school as well as future events & news, we hear about curriculum and the school’s needs in relation to these aspects. We consider what we as a parent and community body would like to add to the student’s school experiences.

Outlined below are some of the activities and projects the P&C has participated and facilitated this year for our students:

  • Mr Smith (Music) attended a meeting last term and outlined some musical equipment needs. The classes have outgrown the current available instruments due to the wonderful progress they are making developing skills in playing and reading music. The P&C was able to rectify this situation and very soon the Music room will include 5 new quality glockenspiels and 3 additional full size digital pianos. This will enable children to develop further and demonstrate more ability in assessment tasks.
  • To aid the application of the new National Curriculum we asked the school teaching staff what could the P&C do to assist the students and school? One of the answers received was a desire for more learning support hours. The best way to facilitate as many students as possible benefiting from such a finite resource was identified as employing Mrs Thornton, the existing Learning Support Teacher an additional day to work with the classroom teachers to assist resourcing and tailoring the curriculum to where each individual student is at. Whilst the classroom teachers already do this, within the new fast paced curriculum (only 5 week units), having additional learning support assistance for all students at all levels will, mean that learning needs are identified and students afforded a greater opportunity to progress and fill the gaps between the previous curriculum and the new National Curriculum. Measures of the benefit will be reported back to the P&C and we are truly grateful to have this opportunity to assist all students at all levels in their learning and support the effort our teachers invest.
  • The P&C has also contributed to the implementation of the new curriculum by purchasing the new PAT-R which is an assessment tool in literacy.
  • As in previous years the P&C has also subsidised the Year 7 camp and will fund the students’ meals and cake for the Year 7 Graduation dinner.
  • $500 has been given to Year 1 and 2 as winners of this year’s Show Volunteer Hours prize.  Year 1and 2 will now consider how they will spend this money.

Finally, at a recent meeting, the P&C authorised the full funding of a Developmental Health Education Program for the Year 5, 6 and 7 students. More details and an information night for parents prior will be announced when we can confirm when the educator and the program will be available in our school. Efforts are being made to have this program commence this term.

This school support as outlined above totals approximately $15500. A tremendous effort and we hope you agree the spending has been considered, varied and beneficial across the school community.
